Preface:Here is a little bit about my bias. I'm a multi-generational native of San Diego, a fan of Victoria Secrets and a former resident of both San Diego and San Francisco.
Santa Barbara is a mini-San Diego. But it's better. It's smaller, simpler, now cleaner and great. The one thing I do like Santa Barbara over San Diego is the local's additude towards fitness and exercise. Sure there are fit people in San Diego. But they're not as visible as they are in the smaller town.
San Diego is a big play ground. People tend to go over the top to glam it out, but it's so heavy all the time and people forget to embrace their natural features with dire hopes of attaining that "California Babe" look. Fake or not, Guys love it, but soon to figure out that it's just quantity and not quality. But that's another post, this one is about fashion so we're skimming shallow waters for deeper reasons.
(And yes, I'm having fun playing paparazzi with random people on the street. Note: I will never do a face shot of a stranger. Why? Because I'm making notes about the wardrobe not the individual.)
So what is the consensus on the current trends?
BLAH!!!
Dearest designers, Guess what? At the beach, in California, it is bright and sunny. I don't know if this drab works with a concrete background, but it does not look right under blue skies (shown above). Only a blind lead could let these things hit the shelves before labor day.
And of course what looks good on runway doesn't always hold true for the mean streets.

Who decided that this neo-late 70's drab stuff was making a comeback? Mainly the only people who are wearing it are those who were old enough to wear it the first time it came into fashion. It also exposes who is trying too hard. On top of that, it's not exactly flattering.

The blonde girl in the purple shirt is a really pretty girl with a great body. That shirt totally ruined her look, it hid her great figure and it made her look blah. She's not a "blah" girl, guys would do anything to have her. Can anyone see what i'm talking about?
It's not casual, it looks sloppy. I'm sick of seeing bums (from San Francisco), why would I want to look at other people who want to look like bums? If it's laundry day and you lost your luggage with your good clothes in them, then I can come to forgive this. Otherwise, you might as well wear your mom jeans and moomoos.
If you don't wear bright or bold colors, you're not visible.
It's summer.
The one thing I LOVE about Santa Barbara is that people choose to wear bright and cheerful summer clothes here. They do stand out, they're a sight for sore eyes.

It's a mixture of 80's prep and beach chic. You can wear black in the summer as long as it's a fresh (and preferably bold) color.

And athletic wear is in fashion. (thank God!!!)
